HC Deb 08 June 1981 vol 6 c35W
Mr. Stallard

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will publish details of his proposals for a variation in the death grant benefit which he recently announced at a meeting of the Royal British Legion.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

I did not make any specific proposals at the meeting to which the hon. Member refers, but simply outlined the broad context of the study that is now taking place. I hope to make a further statement on the study in the not-too-distant future. I regret that a news agency misreported a reply I gave to a question from the floor of the conference, and this appears to have led to some misinterpretation by the press of what I said.
