§ Mr. Peter ReesThe married man's allowance was introduced in recognition of the special legal and moral obligation on a married man to support his wife. The justification for the allowance and possible alterations to it are amongst the matters discussed in the Green Paper "The Taxation of Husband and Wife", which my right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer published last December.
