HC Deb 31 July 1981 vol 9 c630W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Trade how many tourist information offices within the area of the English Tourist Board are closed all day on Sundays; how many are closed all day on Saturdays; and how many are closed on Saturday afternoons.

Mrs. Sally Oppenheim

The English Tourist Board (ETB) has an involvement with 479 tourist information centres. None of the 15 of those financed and operated wholly or partly by the board closes automatically on Saturdays or Sundays, but eight are open only for part of the year and six open only at times of boat arrivals. The information for the other 464 centres—which are run by other bodies but receive non-financial support from the board—for example, display material and help with training—is as follows: 131 are open only for part of the year; 256 of those open all year and 28 open for part of the year close all day on Sundays; 87 open all year and five open for part of the year close all day on Saturdays; and 60 open all year and four open for part of the year close on Saturday afternoons.
