§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he intends to ensure that consultation between the electricity supply industry and major electricity consuming industries on changes in industrial tariffs matters generally is put on a formal and more timely basis.
§ Mr. Norman LamontThe electricity supply industry has had numerous informal contacts with major electricity consumers and trade associations in the last 12–18 months. The electricity supply industry intends to continue and develop these contacts. The area electricity boards already have a statutory duty to consult the consultative councils, representing the interests of all consumers, before any tariff charges are made. I believe that these formal and informal contacts provide sufficient opportunity for the major consuming industries to make their case.
§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will take steps to ensure that the electricity supply industry gives much greater urgency to its review of the bulk supply tariff; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Norman LamontThe review of the CEGB's bulk supply tariff which is being undertaken by the Electricity Council will come forward in the autumn. The review covers important and complex issues and it is important that full consideration should be given to them. I have asked to be informed of the results of the review as soon as possible.
