HC Deb 30 July 1981 vol 9 cc476-7W
Sir Patrick

Wall asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list the total number of registered job vacancies in Beverley and provide a breakdown by standard industrial classification.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The following is the information for the Beverley employment office area at 8 May, the latest date for which an industrial analysis is available.

Standard Industrial Classification 1968 At the Employment Office At the Careers Office
Mechanical engineering 1
Metal goods not elsewhere specified 1
Construction 2 1
Gas, electricity and water 2
Transport and communication 4
Distributive trades 7 1
Insurance, banking, finance and business services 2 1
Professional and scientific services 9
Miscellaneous services 16
Public administration 4
Total 48 3

Vacancies notified to employment offices are estimated to account for about one-third of all vacancies in the economy as a whole. The number of vacancies unfilled at a particular date takes no account of the flow of vacancies being notified, filled or withdrawn during the preceding month, which would reflect activity more closely.
