§ Mr. Eadieasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will take steps to ensure that those universities such as Sussex, East Anglia and Kent, which have successfully operated the compulsory year abroad scheme for students in the United States of America, are in a position to guarantee a four-year course, in view of the difficulties caused by the Department of Education and Science's assessment and other financial limitations imposed by the University Grants Committee; and if he will now make a reassessment of the situation taking into consideration the reduction of the rate of exchange.
§ Dr. BoysonThe allocations of grant to individual universities is a matter for the University Grants Committee and, by convention, is not subject to ministerial intervention.
