§ Mr. Parkasked the Secretary of State for Industry what steps he proposes to take before the end of 1981 to increase employment in the Coventry travel-to-work area.
§ Mr. MacGregorEmployment opportunities in Coventry, as elsewhere, depend on firms providing goods and services competitive both in quality and price. That can be achieved only through the efforts of management and workers. The role of the Government is to help create the climate in which such efficient firms prosper and thrive, and that continues to be the aim of all our economic policies. The Government's decision to make considerable funds available to BL to further its programme of restructuring and increase its competitiveness will make a substantial contribution to economic activity in the region.
