HC Deb 20 July 1981 vol 9 c35W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish a breakdown of expenditure by local authorities throughout the United Kingdom to show the percentage of their rateable income that is spent on arts and heritage matters.

Mr. King

Local authorities' income is made up from a number of sources—for example: grant, rates, fees and charges, etc.—and it is not possible to attribute rateable income alone to different services. Information on expenditure on the arts by individual authorities in England and Wales is published annually in "Leisure and Recreation Statistics Estimates" by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy which also publishes data on rateable income in "Financial, General and Rating Statistics".

Information for Scottish authorities is published by CIPFA (Scottish branch) in "The Rating Review".

Copies of these publications are available through the Library.
