HC Deb 16 July 1981 vol 8 cc467-8W
Mr. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what progress is being made on the construction of a tritium plant at British Nuclear Fuels Ltd.'s Chapelcross works; and if he will make a statement regarding the purpose of the plant.

Mr. Pattie

Construction of the tritium plant at BNFL Chapelcross was completed early in 1980. As was made clear when the project was announced in 1976, the plant is used for the production of tritium in aid of the United Kingdom nuclear weapons programme.
