§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he will give, at the latest and most convenient stated date, the numbers of peers of the realm who hold any appointment sponsored by his Department; what situation or appointment each one holds; how many hours per week are given to the work connected with it; what are the salaries or expenses paid; and how the latter compare with May 1979.
§ Mr. David HowellThere are no peers of the realm on my Department's direct pay roll, nor holding remunerated appointments in any of the bodies whose costs are borne directly by my Department. The information in relation to statutory corporations sponsored by my Department as at 1 July 1981 is as follows:
The British National Oil Corporation—
Lord Croham, Deputy Chairman, part-time,* £14,483 pa (Salary as at May, 1979, £11,483 pa)
British Gas Corporation—
Lord Scanlon, part-time member, £3,670 pa (Salary as at May, 1979, £2,330 pa)
Merseyside and North Wales Electricity Board—
- Lord Sefton, part-time member, £2,500 pa (Salary as at May, 1979, £1,800 pa)
- * Part-time means 2 days per week.
- Part-time means an average of 2 days per month.
- Reasonable travelling and subsistence expenses are reimbursed at the discretion of the chairman of the board.
