HC Deb 16 July 1981 vol 8 c460W
Mrs. Dunwoody

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received about the effects on humans of hormones being injected into meats and other foods; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Walker

Representatives of consumers' associations have suggested to me that existing controls should be reviewed in order to provide greater assurance that medicinal products are used properly and that the risks to human health are minimised. In consultation with my right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for Social Services, I keep these controls under constant review. Moreover, the European Community plans to set in place Community-wide controls. I report progress on this to the House regularly.
