§ Mr. Ernie Rossasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what information or results of research work his Department has collected on the social class background of university entrants in (a) Scotland and (b) Great Britain and the changes in percentage of entrants from different social classes over the past 20 years.
§ Dr. BoysonThe only information of which my right hon. and learned Friend and I are aware is that which is published annually by the universities central council on admissions in its statistical supplements. For the years 1968–1979 inclusive this gives information on the parents' occupation of accepted home candidates to United Kingdom universities. Information on social class as such is also currently published, but extends back only to the 1978 entry.
