§ Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will pay special regard to the burdens of the debt repayment on future Governments and taxpayers in assessing the amount of index linked Government stock and savings certificates to be issued.
§ Mr. Lawson[pursuant to his reply, 9 July]: Careful regard to the future burden of debt servicing and repayment is given before any new debt is issued, whether index-linked or not.
