Mr. Youngasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what discussions he has had and with whom before reaching his recent decisions in connection with the legalisation of citizens' band radio; and if he will delay his decision to commit citizens' band radio to 27 MHz. FM, to enable him to have discussions with interested parties, not yet consulted.
§ Mr. RaisonThe decision to introduce a 27 MHz. FM citizens' band service was announced on 26 February in a reply to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for Haltemprice (Sir P. Wall) and took into account the representations we had received on this issue from a wide range of interests including CB groups, the manufacturing industry and users of other radio services. We have received further representations since then, in particular about the subsequent choice of frequencies for the service in the 27 MHz. range; but as my right hon. Friend indicated in reply to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for Haltemprice on 24 June our aim is to introduce a viable service in the autumn and we must now work towards this on the basis of the decisions which we have taken.
