Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Defence, in the light of the sponsorship by Messrs. Watney Mann & Truman, the brewers, of sporting events for the Armed Forces, if he will make it a rule that orders and contracts from his Department are not awarded to firms which undertake the sponsoring of sporting events in order to ensure that such sponsorship does not achieve preferential treatment.

Arrangements are made to ensure that firms offering commercial sponsorship to the Armed Forces are not favoured on that account in the award of central contracts by the Ministry of Defence.
