HC Deb 28 January 1981 vol 997 cc446-7W
31. Mr. Cockeram

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what change in State support for British Railways will occur between 1980–81 and 1981–82 in percentage terms; and what change will occur in expenditure on trunk roads.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The level of central Government support to the British Railways Board depends on the operating results of the board's passenger business, but the increase in 1981–82 compared to 1980–81 will be limited to some 2 per cent. in real terms.

It is too early to say how trunk road and motorway spending in 1981–82 will compare with spending this year.
