HC Deb 26 January 1981 vol 997 cc282-3W
Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether he will publish figures showing the rise in unit labour costs, adjusted for inflation, in (a) the United Kingdom, (b) Germany, (c) France, (d) the United States of America and (e) Japan for each year from 1974.

Mr. MacGregor

[pursuant to his reply, 20 January 1981, c. 134.]: The table below shows for each country changes on a year earlier in unit labour costs in manufacturing industry and, alongside these, changes in the level of prices. The appropriate measure of prices depends on the particular purpose for which the figures are required. The index of wholesale prices of output of manufactured goods has been used.
