Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

asked the Secretary of State for Industry, in each of the past five years, what was the total capital investment in the textile industry and in the clothing industry, what was the number of employees in each; and what was the investment per employee.

The information is given below for 1975–79. The capital expenditure figures exclude assets obtained on lease rather than bought. Leasing is becoming increasingly important but estimates of its effect on individual industries are not available.
