HC Deb 26 January 1981 vol 997 c278W
Mr. Field

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, based on the most recently published survey, what are the numbers claiming free school meals; and if he will divide this total according to whether the children's parents (a) received supplementary benefit, (b) received family income supplement, (c) were on incomes below the supplementary benefit level and (d) were on incomes above the supplementary benefit level but below the prescribed income limits for eligibility.

Mr. Macfarlane

In October 1979, 899,000 pupils attending schools in England received free school meals; information is not available centrally on how this total would be divided among the four categories listed in the question.
