§ Mr. Marlowasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will seek to reduce the European Community budget by, in particular, reducing the amount spent on the common agricultural policy.
§ Mr. Lawson[pursuant to his reply, 15 January 1981]: The Government believe that the need for restraint in public spending applies just as much to the Community budget as to national budgets. We also believe that, within a budget constrained by the yield of its existing own resources, the Community should reduce the proportion of its expenditure accounted for by the common agricultural policy.
