HC Deb 15 January 1981 vol 996 c603W
Mr. Richard Shepherd

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will set out the reasons for the revaluations of the green pound in 1980 and its aims in securing reasonable prices for consumers as set out in article 39 of the Treaty of Rome.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

There were no revaluations of the green pound in 1980. The Government fulfilled their objective of devaluing the green pound through three successive devaluations in 1979. The purpose of the devaluations was to obtain fair prices for producers which is also an objective of article 39 of the Treaty of Rome.
