§ Mrs Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Defence what has been his Department's contribution towards the cost of Operation Drake; and if he will break the figure down to show to what the expenditure relates.
§ Mr. SpeedNo direct financial contribution was made from Defence funds towards the cost of Operation Drake. A number of facilities were made available on the basis of no extra cost to the Department, and some Service personnel participated in various phases of the expedition. While so doing they received normal pay and allowances, and in some cases small grants were made from Adventurous Training funds towards their travel and accommodation expenses. A detailed breakdown of the costs of personnel participating in the expedition could not be prepared without excessive research.
