Mr. Jim Callaghanasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list the benefits available to a person who attains pensionable age yet continues to work for a further five years before drawing a pension.
§ Mrs. ChalkerIn general terms, a person over pension age who is deferring retirement is entitled to the same benefits as a person under pension age, subject to satisfying the conditions of entitlement. The rate of benefit and/or the conditions may, however, be different.
A person over pension age cannot establish title to mobility allowance, non-contributory invalidity pension or invalid care allowance, although these benefits may be paid after pension age if title was established before that age.
In addition, a person over 65 who is entitled to a war disablement pension of 40 per cent. or more becomes entitled to an age allowance, whether or not he is still working.
