HC Deb 12 January 1981 vol 996 c424W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on the sanitary conditions and availability to prisoners of sanitary facilities in A wing of Armagh gaol.

Mr. Alison:

The wing has three baths, one shower, eight wash-hand basins and five toilets. The facilities are always available for use by the prisoners; they are never locked, but all 29 women prisoners housed in the wing are taking part in the dirty protest there and are refusing to use the facilities.

medical officer visits the cells at least once a week to monitor and observe the internal conditions, and inmates' health so far as this is practical.
