§ Mr. Shersbyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied that the grant of £9 million per annum to the Nature Conservancy Council as compared with £19 million per annum to the Sports Council properly reflects the degree of importance attaching to nature conservancy and the natural heritage as compared with the desirability of providing adequate State support to sporting activities.
§ Mr. MonroThe functions and objectives of the Nature Conservancy Council and the Sports Council are not comparable, but my right hon. Friend is satisfied that both nature conservation and sport received grant-aid commensurate with their differing needs and what the country can afford.
