Mr. Field

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many microcomputers are currently in use in his Department; and what are the major uses to which they are put.

Mr. Rossi

There are currently 22 microcomputers in use within DHSS; they are used for:

  1. (a) building and engineering research and developments ;
  2. (b) training of programmers, demonstrations, evaluation of software and equipment and development of systems;
  3. (c) costing of hospital menus for advice to the NHS;
  4. (d) general administrative work such as maintenance of lists, analysis and tabulation of information and storage and retrieval of data.
