§ Dr. M. S. Millerasked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what work is at present being carried out in the United Kingdom on the development of defoliants for military use;
400W(2) to what extent Her Majesty's Government cooperated with the Government of the United States of America in the development of defoliants such as "Agent Orange" for military use;
(3) which Government establishments have worked on the development of defoliants for military use.
Mr. Goodhart: No work is being carried out by the Ministry of Defence, or on its behalf, on defoliants for military use.
No Ministry of Defence establishments in this country have worked on the development of defoliants for military use during the last 30 years. War Office operational research section at Kuala Lumpur carried out trials between 1952–1955 on a range of defoliants.
There has never been any co-operative programme with the United States although exchanges of information on the use of herbicides have taken place under the normal technical co-operation arrangements.
