HC Deb 21 December 1981 vol 15 cc321-2W
Mr. Hicks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list, for the last year for which figures are available, the total budget of the Development Commission, the amount spent in the South-West assisted area, and equivalent figures per head of the insured population for the area covered by the commission in England and the South-West assisted area, respectively.

Mr. Macfarlane

For 1980–81, the Development Commission's total expenditure was £15.855 million. This is equivalent to 73p per head of the working population in England.

Information about the amount spent in the South-West assisted area is not readily available. £2.4 million was spent in Devon and Cornwall as a whole. Figures of the working population are not produced below regional level and it is not possible to answer the final part of the question.
