§ 53. Mr. Marlowasked the Secretary of State for Employment why rates of unemployment are not increasing as rapidly in the United Kingdom as within the European Economic Community as a whole.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonMost member countries in the European Community have experienced seasonally adjusted increases in unemployment in recent months. In the Federal Republic of Germany and the Netherlands the rate of increase has been faster than in the United Kingdom, but in other countries there have been smaller increases or falls. Differences between countries in rates of increase in unemployment occur partly because each is at a different stage of its current economic cycle.
