asked the Chancellor of the Exhequer if he will update to 1981–82 the information on personal tax allowances provided in his reply of 7 March 1980 to the hon. Member for Birkenhead (Mr. Field) Official Report,c. 353–4.

Average earnings for the financial year 1980–81 are based on averages of the monthly estimates derived from new earnings survey data for full-time adult males or females (all occupations). For illustration, average earnings have been assumed to increase by 11¼ per cent between 1980–81 and 1981–82.
