Mr. Heddle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many patients are currently awaiting orthopaedic surgery, on a region-by-region basis; and if he will break the statistics down by the following age groups; (a) 40 to 50 years, (b) 51 to 55 years, (c) 56 to 60 years, (d) 61 to 65 years, (e) 66 to 70 years and (f) over 70 years.

The following table shows the number of patients in each NHS region who were awaiting in-patient treatment in the speciality of traumatic and orthopaedic surgery on 31 December 1980, the most recent date for which figures are available. Age group statistics are not collected.
