§ Mr. Rowlandsasked the Secretary of State for Industry what proportion of the £50 million allocated by the Chancellor of the Exchequer for the conversion of boilers for coal is expected to be spent in 1981–82; and how many additional tons of coal are expected to be consumed as a result of those schemes approved in 1981–82.
§ Mr. MacGregorSo far, 28 offers of grant totalling £1.2 million have been made under the coal-fired boiler scheme. Only a proportion of this is likely to be spent during the 1981–82 financial year. The scope and coverage of the scheme is currently being reviewed. It is anticipated that some 400,000 tonnes of coal should be burnt annually as a result of the application received and approved in 1981–82.
22Wwould be well within the capacity of the United Kingdom steel industry to supply, without detriment to other customers.
