§ Mr. Wigley
asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the average proportion of car owners in each of the Welsh counties; what percentage of tourists travel into Gwynedd by car; and what proportion of the total rate support grant settlement is allocated to increase fuel costs.
§ Mr. Wyn Roberts
The latest estimates of car ownership in Wales are given in the following table. They are derived from a survey carried out in 1978 and 1979.
County Percentage of households having a car available for private use Clwyd 64.3 Dyfed 64.3 Gwent 56.2 Gwynedd 62.3 Mid Glamorgan 51.2 Powys 69.8 South Glamorgan 56.2 West Glamorgan 55.6
It is not possible to give a reliable estimate of the percentage of tourists who travel into Gwynedd by car.
No specific provision is made in the rate support grant settlement for changes in fuel costs. The 1982–83 settlement will assume that the overall increase in the prices element of revenue expenditure will be 9 per cent. between 1981–82 and 1982–83.
