§ Mr. Dewarasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the number of purchases there have been of agricultural land in Scotland by (a) institutions and pension funds and (b) non-British interests, respectively, and the total acreage involved in each category since the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries began maintaining such records consequent on the recommendations of the Northfield committee.
§ Mr. YoungerSince monitoring began in 1980 there has been recorded a total of 51 purchases of agricultural land in Scotland by financial institutions, including pension funds, involving approximately 19,000 hectares, and 11 purchases by foreign nationals involving 13,000 hectares.
