§ Dr. McDonaldasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will now give estimates of the effect of his Budget measures on the retail price index and the tax and price index compared with the values they would have if personal allowances were increased in line with section 22(2) of the Finance Act 1977 and if duties were at their pre-Budget levels.
§ Mr. BrittanIn terms of the impact effects, the retail price index will be around 2 per cent. higher and the tax and price index will be roughly 4½per cent. higher.
