asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many council houses were sold by each local authority in each quarter since 1 July 1979; and what percentage of the total housing stock the total figure of sales represents in each case.

The information in the form requested by the hon. Gentleman can only be provided at disproportionate cost. However, the following information is available in publications in the Library of the House:

  1. a. The number of dwellings sold or leased by each local authority in the year 1979. (Local Housing Statistics No. 53 Table 11.)
  2. b. The number of dwellings sold or leased by each local authority in the 9 months January to September 1980. (These figures will be in Local Housing Statistics No. 57 Table 9a to be published in May. I have placed an advance copy of this Table in the Library.)

  3. c. The number of dwellings in each local authority's housing revenue account at 1 April 1980 is published by CIPFA in Housing Revenue Account Statistics 1980–81 Estimates Col. 24.
