§ Mr. Clinton Davisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the position of material witnesses wishing to give evidence before the Scarman inquiry in relation to the incidents in Brixton on the weekend of 11 to 12 April and who themselves face prosecution; in particular, whether such witnesses will continue to be prosecuted and may, therefore, be debarred from or advised against giving evidence; and whether, in such cases, their evidence will be taken at the conclusion of such prosecutions.
§ Mr. MayhewThe question of any assurances for witnesses before Lord Scarman's inquiry is a matter for my right hon. and learned Friend the Attorney-General.
