§ Mr. Trippierasked the Secretary of State for Defence what were the results of the review ordered by the General Staff earlier in the current year of possible economies in the structure of the British Army of the Rhine.
§ Mr. GoodhartWe continue to study ways in which we can streamline the structure of the British Army of the Rhine while maintaining or even improving its operational effectiveness. Our aim is to concentrate as much of our available resources as possible in its combat capability—in the teeth arms and their essential logistic support—while cutting back on the general support "tail". A number of options are currently under study, but no decisions have yet been made.
