HC Deb 16 April 1981 vol 3 cc280-1W
Mr. Conlan

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will seek to legislate to restrain site owners from frequently increasing the rents charged to the owners of static caravans located on their land; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Sally Oppenheim

No. Increased charges are only one of a wide range of problems faced by holiday caravan owners. I hope that these problems can be resolved through voluntary self-regulation rather than by complicated legislation. The Director General of Fair Trading is therefore seeking to agree with the National Caravan Council and the National Federation of Site Operators a code of practice which will achieve a fair balance between the interests of site operators and those of caravan owners.

These arrangements will not, of course, apply to static residential caravans. My hon. Friend the Minister for Housing and Construction explained the arrangements which apply to such caravans on 13 March.—[Vol. 1000, c. 438.].
