HC Deb 16 April 1981 vol 3 c273W
Mr.Wm Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the estimated final cost of the Madams Bank bridge and approach roads.

Mr. David Mitchell

The contract for the construction of the Foyle bridge allows for cost increases in labour and materials over the period of the contract. It is not, therefore, possible to estimate final cost as this will depend upon the rate of cost increases until the work is completed. However, the tender sum together with cost variation to date amounts to approximately £20.2 million.

The cost of the two approaches was £2.6 million.

In addition, a contractor's claim for work on the approach roads is being considered and may be subject to arbitration.
