§ Mr. Cryerasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he has received any application from British Railways for financial assistance to maintain viaducts and tunnels, over and above the existing investment, and to provide replacements to viaducts such as Ribblehead viaduct; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. FowlerI have received no application for additional financial assistance to enable the hoard to maintain or replace viaducts and tunnels generally. Any costs attributable to the passenger business resulting from the maintenance or replacement of assets is taken into account in the calculation of the public service obligation grant.
