(2) further to his reply dated 12 February, Official Report, c. 406, to a written question from the hon. Member for Grimsby concerning the total amount collected by way of levies in excess of the common agricultural policy rate, whether he will publish in the Official Report a table showing the amounts collected each month from the beginning of 1980 to date, the corresponding level of the monetary compensatory amount, whether negative or positive, and the ratio of the monetary compensatory amount to the levy, overall or by principal commodities.
§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithNo precise relationship exists between the amounts paid or received in export refunds and import levies each month and the prevailing rates of common levy, common refund and monetary compensatory amount. These rates are fixed each week (in some cases more frequently) and there is provision for traders to prefix the rates in trade with third countries; in the case of export refunds a period of varying extent can elapse between the export concerned and the recording of the refund payment.
