§ Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will consider changing the frequency of payment of either unemployment benefit or supplementary benefit so that they are similar.
§ Mr. Patrick JenkinThe frequency of paying both unemployment and supplementary benefit to the unemployed is the same, but there are differences in the way that pay periods are calculated. The difficulties caused by this are set out in the joint Department of Employment/Department of Health and Social Security Rayner report, 'Payment of Benefits to Unemployed People' published on 20 March, a copy of which is in the Library of the House. An examination of the problem will be mounted shortly.
