HC Deb 28 October 1980 vol 991 cc263-4W
Mr Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many awards were made by industrial injury tribunals in 1979 and how many appeals were made against the awards; and in how many cases the award was (a) increased, (b) decreased, or (c) set aside altogether.

Mr. Prentice

During 1979 industrial injuries medical boards examined 237,471 cases. In the same year, medical appeal tribunals heard 9,884 appeals. They gave decisions in favour of the claimant in 3,674 cases and confirmed the decision of the board in 5,645 cases. Separate figures are not maintained for awards which are decreased or set aside, but in aggregate they numbered 565.
