HC Deb 28 October 1980 vol 991 c248W
Mr. Hal Miller

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he intends to implement the recommendations contained in the 1977 report by the Food Standards Committee on beer; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Wiggin

The Brewers Society, whose members market the bulk of the beer sold in the United Kingdom, recently recommended them to label their products with a declaration of original gravity and, where appropriate conditioning and method of dispense. The Government hope that voluntary action of this sort, which would provide the customer with valuable additional information, will make it possible to avoid statutory regulations.
