§ Mr. Hardyasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is satisfied that eggs imported into the United Kingdom are not produced from hens which have been reared upon food additives, the use of which is not permitted in the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. Buchanan-Smith:Yes. Most eggs entering the United Kingdom come from elsewhere in the Community and their 116W production is subject to the terms of directive 70/524/EEC concerning additives in feedingstuffs. The directive permits only the use of authorised medicinal additives unless in accordance with a veterinarian's prescription.
