asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will make a statement about the implementation of the Companies Act 1980.

Mr. Eyre

I have made a commencement order to bring into effect on 22 December very nearly all of the provisions of the Companies Act 1980 not previously implemented. The only provisions of the Act remaining unimplemented on 22 December will be the followingSection 82 (f); Section 88 (2) in so far as it relates to the repeal of the statutory provisions mentioned below in relation to schedule 4; In section 65(1), in paragraph (6) of the definition of "relevant company", the words "either" and "or has another subsidiary which is not a private company: or; "and paragraph (c) of that definition; Schedule 4, in so far as it relates to the repeal of section 438 of, and schedule 15 to, the Companies Act 1948.

A number of related instruments have been or will be made with the same operative date of 22 December. These concern such matters as the prescription of new forms needed for registration under the Act, the fees payable and the exemption of overseas companies from certain accounting requirements under the Act.
