Mr. J. Enoch Powellasked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will make a statement on the measures taken to date to locate and rescue Mr. Kenneth Kerr, engaged in an attempt to cross the Atlantic single-handed by oars, and on any further action which is proposed.
§ Mr. EyreMr. Kerr was last seen by the M.V. "Dorsetshire" on 12 August when he was some 550 miles west of Ireland. He has not been heard from since. The Coastguard arranged that radio stations in Canada, the Irish Republic, France and the United Kingdom should make broadcasts at intervals to shipping and aircraft requesting special vigilance. These broadcasts were discontinued on 27 October by which time the Coastguard judged Mr. Kerr to be four weeks overdue. It is not clear that any further action is justified.
