§ Mr. Adleyasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he can provide figures of redundancies created in (a) the private sector, and (b) the public sector equating the boundaries as far as possible with local authority boundary areas; and if he will provide these statistics for county and district council areas in England in order to draw a comparison between the numbers declared redundant in the public and private sectors in given areas for which a direct measurement of local government employment can be made.
§ Mr. Jim Lester[pursuant to his reply, 11 November 1980, c. 125]: The available statistics on redundancies are not separated into private and public sectors, and are not based on county and district council areas. The information requested could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
