HC Deb 03 November 1980 vol 991 cc486-7W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether the Government have now reached their final conclusion on the report of the review committee on the Ordnance Survey; and if he will ensure that before any decision is taken that could involve the transfer of part or all of this work to the private sector, there will be a full opportunity for interested parties to make representations to him and that he will publish a summary of such representations.

Mr. Heselfine

I shall reach my conclusions on the findings of the review committee when I have finished my present examination of the possibilities for giving Ordnance Survey a more enterprising role and independent status. Any resulting proposals for structural changes will be the subject of wide consultation but it is too early yet to decide what the detailed arrangements for consultation would be or what procedures would follow.
